Studies have shown that people had less headache pain after they applied peppermint or lavender essential oils to their skin. Essential oils can be added to your wash cloth and applied with a cold compress to the head or warm compress to the back or by adding a couple of drops to a cotton ball and wave it under your nose.
Do not add essential oils directly on your skin but be sure to dilute it with a carrier oil such as jojoba or almond oil. Ask your doctor or look online for the oil properties to be sure you are not allergic to any of the oils because some do have side effects. Once you are sure you can try some of the oils from the list to below to start reliving your head tensions.
Lavender oil: Can remedy anxiety and mental stressors.
Peppermint oil: Has a menthol component that helps to relieve tension and discomfort from headaches. Peppermint also provides analgestic effects to relieve nausea and help clear sinuses.
Roman camomile oil: Camomile relaxes the muscles but also helps relieve headache tension and proves a calming effect for anxiety and stress. This oil is not currently in stock but we've linked to a 3rd party site.
Rosemary oil: Similar to peppermint or eucalyptus, rosemary has a stimulating effect and also thought to relieve pain. As we do not have this oil we linked to amazon to find a reputable brand.
Lemon oil: An uplifting oil that induces a sense of calm but also relieves tension headaches.
